Philips videopac

The Philips Videopac G7000 was a gaming console with cartridges and was introduced in the late seventies. The consoles was developed by Magnavox USA and was sold in Europe as G7000 or Videopac. Although it had some stiff competition from Sega and Atari, it was reasonably successful in Europe and the US. At some time it even reached the third place in sales volume, behind the Atari 2600 and the Matell.  The console was sold from 1978 until 1986. Unlike the older game consoles, the games were now sold on seperate cartridges.

If you look at the pictures on the cartridges, it is funny to see how the actual game is totally different from the pictures displayed on the box. Even in the '80's marketing was a great thing. The games are actually very fun to play, because of its simplicity. No HDTV support, amazing framerates and shaders, it is all about having fun. Acrobats and slingshot is such a game. It is very mutch fun and even with friends a lot of fun to play.

There are several versions of the console, like a version with a monochrome monitor. Also various variants exist of the G7000 console, they have detachable controllers or different power supplies.
